Funny Stories

Today I was talking to Molly about how kindergarten was, and then I walked into the kichen to get something and saw the door to the deck wide open. I walked out onto the deck and this (below) is what I saw! I said, "Alex, what are you doing?" He said, "Just setting up the pool." It's September. Anybody want to come over for a swim? Silly boy. That pool was one I bought on clearance a few weeks ago to save for next summer. Our inflatable ones don't seem to make it past 3 months, so I thought we'd try this kind and see how it goes. I meant for it to stay in the box until June, though! I had it in the house and planned to take it to the garage the next time I went outside, so I had left it laying by the deck door, where apparently Alex found it.

Alex is so fun. He's such a sweet boy, too. 95% sweet, active, intense, persistent, kind, funny boy and 5% Tazmanian Devil. It's that 5% that throws me for a loop sometimes. I mean, how many times do I have to tell him to ASK if he wants something that he sees... like a new swimming pool in an unopened box maybe?

THIS is what remains of the pool box. See! 5% Tazmanian Devil. I wonder which side of the family those genes come from??? He didn't just neatly open the box. He tore it to shreds!

Let's see what other funny stories I can remember...

At family camp we were canoing in a lake with thousands of lily pads. Molly was sure she was going to spot a frog on one of them. After a while, she still hadn't seen any frogs and was getting disappointed. She said, "I think I need to call them!" Then she made this really funny sound that was halfway between a croak and a ribbet. "Crrrooooooooorrrrrriiiiiibbbbiiitt, Crrrrrroooooooooooooorrriiiiibbbiitt, Crrrooooooooooarribbbit!" Then she waited, but still the frogs did not come. She didn't understand why, because after all, she clearly speaks frog.

If poop offends you, don't read this next story.

Cory was walking upstairs with Molly and Alex for bedtime one night. Molly shouts, "Dad, watch out for Alex's poop on the step!"

What?!?

Cory and I are shocked and horrified and are trying VERY hard not to bust out laughing, which would only encourage things like this. We asked Molly what happened, and she said that Alex had given her something and then told her it was his poop. She didn't want to hold it, so she put it on the step. (and didn't tell us?!?) Wow.
Later, I was still confused about when this whole thing could have happened. Then I spied an opened Clif bar on the basement carpet. If you aren't familiar, Clif bars are a kind of granola/power bar and, well, they do kind of resemble poo. Apparently Alex found a Clif bar, opened it, ate some, and then gave Molly a chunk of it and told her it was his poop. He's always trying to be a comedian, but wow, I didn't expect the poop jokes to start already at age 2!

Wait, it gets even better! The next morning, Alex wasn't eating his cereal for breakfast and started asking if he could have a bar. Normally the Clif bars aren't for the kids, but since that one was already opened I asked if he wanted the rest of it. He said he did. He ate some of it. Then, a few minutes later, I heard Molly yell, "Mom, Alex is trying to give me his poop again!!!!" Yes, again he tried to pull the same stunt on Molly! Little stinker!

I'm sure there are more. I'll try to keep more caught up on blogging so I can post things before I forget them. :)

Fun Times at the Apple Orchard!

On Saturday we went with the Burdettes to an apple orchard. It was really fun! Here are all the kids with the dads on top of the hay pile.

Alex has the best expressions on his face sometimes! I think he thinks I'm annoying because I'm always snapping photos of him. :) Here he's climbing into part of a wooden train they have for the kids to play on.

Molly is the train engineer!

At the petting zoo, the goats were just hanging out on the roof of this little barn. It was so funny to see them up there! They had a ladder/ramp on the backside where they could climb up and down.

We also enjoyed apple smores, brats with apple and onion topping, and fresh doughnuts. YUM!

Molly's First Day of School!

Molly started kindergarten on Thursday, September 4.
She LOVES school so far. She goes full days (from 9am-3:40pm) and thinks her teacher is really nice.

It is really fun to hear her comments about school. Everything is so new and exciting! The first day, she seemed most excited about the fact that EVERY DAY she can pick if she wants white or chocolate milk for lunch. EVERY DAY! She can have CHOCOLATE!!!! :)
She actually said, "Tomorrow I will have chocolate, and the day after that I will have chocolate, and then I will have white milk, and the day after that I will have chocolate, and then chocolate again, and then I will have white milk...." Funny.

Isn't she just soooo cute in her uniform?

More of Molly's Party!

Here's Molly sticking the bow onto Hello Kitty. I had to hold the hat down because she kept trying to peek. :)

Here are the kids lined up for the bean bag toss game. Ella is in front, and then Amy and Josiah (with Mado at the couch on the left).

Luke finished off the pinata! The kids also played a fun treasure hunt game to find their prizes.

Molly loves frosting! She even licked the frosting off of her candles after blowing them out!

Molly's Birthday Party

Molly turned 5 on August 31st! She had a Hello Kitty party with friends to celebrate.

Molly really really really wanted a Hello Kitty pinata for her party, but we couldn't find one in any stores. Thankfully Hello Kitty isn't very detailed, and I was able to make a pinata myself. :) Isn't it cute?

Pin the bow on the kitty was pretty fun. Calvin won!

Cake!

State Fair!

I'm still trying to get caught up!

We went to the MN State Fair with my parents and had a great time! Molly and Alex love the Little Farm Hands area, so all of these photos are from that. Alex was very excited to "drive" this tractor. :)

Yay for John Deere hats!

Here's one he could drive!

Family Camp 7

Each family at camp is assigned their own babysitter. Kacie was our babysitter this year, and she was amazing! The kids loved her and she was so nice and helpful! The babysitters eat meals with the families, clear their plates at meals, watch thier kids one afternoon during the week, and watch the kids and put them to bed every evening while the adults are enjoying free time. It is a great deal, and we really got lucky by having Kacie. She was the best! :)

Alex and Kacie had fun blowing bubbles. Molly was blowing them too... but I can't post every photo!!!

Every family gets to make a rocket out of a 2-liter pop bottle at the craft shack during the week. Then we all launch the rockets and watch how far they go. Molly was excited to launch ours!

Molly's class gave a little performance during chapel on the last evening at camp. It was really cute! :) They learned about Moses and the 10 commandments all week.

Family camp was great. We'll be back next year!

Family Camp 6

We signed the kids up for more horse rides. This time Cory and I got to lead the horses around the corral with Molly and Alex riding. They loved it! Here is Molly on the horse with Cory leading it.

Alex riding and Emily leading the horse.

Molly wanted to try out the climbing wall. In the photo above, Steve is helping her get the harness on tight. Kirsten is in the back watching.

Molly (in the green shirt) made it pretty high before saying it was scary and she wanted down. She did well for being as little as she is!

Family Camp 5

Alex got his very first horse ride at camp this year! He LOVED every minute of it. :)

Molly got to ride a horse at the camp carnival too!

We spent a nice afternoon canoeing to "Hidden River". It was really peaceful and pretty.

This is me on a mountain scooter. Cory and I thought it sounded like fun to ride these down some trails. I was picturing smooth, nice trails. Instead, the trails were bumpy, rocky, and full of random tree branches and roots. About 10 minutes after this photo was taken I somehow flipped off the scooter and ended up bruised, covered in dirt, and bleeding a little. Most people were unscathed, but I still wouldn't recommend it.

Family Camp 4

We played a lot of miniature golf at camp, too. Alex loved it!

Alex and Molly liked the sheep at the petting zoo.

Alex wanted to pet every single horse in the stable.

Family Camp 3

Molly couldn't wait to get back to family camp to collect more "seashells". They are actually snail shells, and I told her that, but she still loves them. She was so excited to find them at the bottom of the swimming area!

Molly also enjoyed "the rock", a huge inflatable thing that floats on the water. The kids climb up the sides and then go down the slide into the water. That's Molly sliding down it in the photo above.

More snail shell gathering.

Alex found some too!
