It's official...

It's official. We've only gotten through 4.5 months of kindergarten and already my daughter is smarter than me! She's only 5, and she knows something important and useful that I do not know. She can now list off all of Africa's countries. I can sing the North American and South American Countries songs, but I can definitely not do Africa. There are a LOT of countries in Africa! I thought maybe by 4th grade or so she'd be learning things I didn't know, but Kindergarten?!?

OOPS, I thought I had uploaded the video here, but I guess I picked the wrong one. I'll try again.

!

p.s. I really do love comments, and I also like to know if anybody out there is even reading this blog. Anybody? Anyway, there's my shameless plea for comments. You don't have to comment on this particular post... just sometimes on some of them it would be nice. I promise it will make me smile. :) Thanks

Light Saber battles and more

Molly and Alex both got Star Wars light sabers for Christmas. They think it is fun to have little battles. So far no one has lost an eye. :)

Molly made us a Thank You card in Kids' Church a couple of weeks ago. I asked her teachers about it, and they said they had talked about thankfulness and had the kids write something they were thankful for in the card. Apparently many kids listed toys and other things like that and this was Molly's own idea. It is kind of funny to get a card like this from your 5-yr-old - incredibly precious and sweet, don't get me wrong - but still kind of funny, too. You are a sweetheart, Molly!

Fun Times at the Children's Museum

It's been a while since I uploaded photos, so I'm a bit behind. On New Years Eve, we went with some friends to the Children's Museum.
There is a room there where the kids can pretend to be in a band and sing/play music. They have pretend instruments for them to hold, and the back wall is blue. There are TV screens in the room that then puts their images into a "music video" for them to watch as they perform. The kids love it! Alex and his friend Madeleine were waiting for the next song to start in the photo above.

Here Calvin and Molly are jamming.

There is a face painting station at the museum where all the kids can paint their own faces. They all LOVE this are are so serious about decorating their cheeks (and sometimes their entire faces). Here is the group showing off their art work. From L to R: Mado, Isaac, Cal, Alex, and Molly.

Molly wants another pinata...

Yesterday Molly and I caught a bit of a news story about how a new Guinness World record was set for the largest pinata ever to be made and broken. The news story showed footage of an enormous multicolored donkey that was broken with a mob of people there to catch the 8000 lbs of candy inside. If you want to see photos of it or read more about it, look HERE.

Pinatas and candy are two of Molly's favorite things, so of course she got VERY excited and started talking all about how wonderful it would have been to be there when that pinata was broken. She quickly moved on to talking about how she hopes that for her next birthday party she can have a pinata that is too big to fit in our house so it has to be in our back yard and everybody can break it and toys and candy will pour out. Yeah.

Today at supper, Molly blurts out to Cory, "Dad, I want to have a pinata for my next birthday that is too big to fit in the house. It will be huge and in our back yard, and when it breaks there will be toys and candy for everyone!!!"
I started laughing and told Cory that Molly had told me the same thing yesterday.
Molly continued describing her dream pinata, and Cory asked, "Who is going to pay for this pinata and everything inside?"
M: Me and you and you (pointing at herself and me and then Cory).
C: Really? All of us?
M: Yes, we will have to put all of our money together for it.
C: (Laughing) Yes, it would take all of it to have a pinata that big.
M: (thinking hard) We can make the outside part of it and then just buy the candy and toys for the inside. We can get the tissue paper and all the stuff we need to make it ourselves, and...... she went on and on with her plan.

Will the candy obsession ever end?

----
On a sweeter note, this afternoon Molly brought me a Thank-you note that she had written to me entirely unprompted. I was actually working on Christmas thank-you's this morning at MOPS, but I don't think she had any idea I was doing that.
Here's what she wrote on her Hello Kitty paper:
Thank you for the food we eat. Thank you for the toys we get.

Awe. :)
